In support of our mission to educate seniors about key issues and to inspire them to take an active role in their community, Greater Niles Village is hosting a Zoom Video Watch Party of Engaging Elders in Climate Action with Bill McKibben. Please join us to learn what, together, we can do about the climate crisis. You may never attend a more compelling or hopeful presentation! With registration for the program, you will receive a Zoom link. We will watch the video together, beginning at 7:05 pm, then discuss the information presented and explore individual and group action opportunities. Bill McKibben, climate visionary and author of the bestselling book, The End of Nature, has been inspiring climate action since 1989. He is the co-founder of 350.org, a grassroots global network mobilizing millions of young people to address global warming, the existential crisis of our lifetimes. In this program, McKibben once again gives us hope and invites us to come together and make a sustainable world. Bill McKibben tells us, “There is a lot of good news.” The world knows how to reduce global warming and provide a good life. The bad news? Progress is too slow. The world needs to accelerate talking action, which will happen only by making “good trouble” to use the words of John Lewis. While young people like Greta Thunberg are speaking out about addressing the climate crisis, older adults have not been as visible. Recently, McKibben has focused on engaging an older generation of Americans that might tip the balance in time. It is why McKibben has founded TH!RD ACT, a diverse national network mobilizing older adults to support younger activists. Third Act is strategic, engaging both older and younger generations from diverse backgrounds to move Washington and Wall Street in the name of a fairer, more sustainable society and planet. Greater Niles Village thanks Ashby Village and Village Movement California for generously sharing their recording of Mr. McKibben’s 1/9/2022 presentation.
