The Way We Were:; Memoir Writing

January 27
7:00 - 8:30 pm
Villagers Janet Quilici and Patty Allen will share their experiences with and insights from memoir writing. Why write a memoir? Enjoy the re-living of your memories. Pass on the treasure of your unique life perspective. Appreciate your accomplishments for a sense of completeness. While we continue to protect each other by sheltering in place, you may want to use the time to tell your story and leave a legacy.

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS

Book Club

January 22
1:00 - 2:30 pm
Register
Villager Marge Leonard will lead a discussion of The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. A 2019 novel by Kim Michele Richardson, this book celebrates the government library workers who carried reading material by horseback or mule to the people of the rural Appalachian territory. Learn, also, about the blue-skinned people who were ostracized because of the color of their skin.

Take Charge of Your Tech

January 26
1:00 - 2:30 pm

Master your electronic devices with help from the Cybergeezers of SIR (Sons in Retirement). Meetings start with a presentation and discussion about using various devices, software, cybersecurity, etc. The presentations are followed by time for those with more tech expertise to help individuals with problems and "how to" questions.

The Culture Club

February 3
7:00 - 8:30 pm
Register
If you are interested in visual and performing arts—theatre, opera, music, dance, art—welcome to The Culture Club. Join us for a discussion of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, the acclaimed Netflix film based on August Wilson’s play. We will watch the show separately, then gather over Zoom to share our thoughts on this piece plus other plays in Wilson’s The Pittsburgh Cycle that we have seen. We can also discuss topics of mutual interest and a schedule for meetings in the new year.

CA NOTIFY

More than 7 million people have activated CA Notify on their smartphones. It is a "privacy-protected" COVID-19 exposure notification system that will notify people if they have come in contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus. Gov. Newsom notes that “in 60 seconds you can help slow the spread of COVID-19.” To learn more about the system, visit https://canotify.ca.gov/. GNV can assist you in signing up for this app. Call 510 936-0214 or email: info@greaternilesvillage.org.
