Memoir Writing - The Way We Were

Follow Up Workshop

March 10, 2021

7:00-8:30 pm
Villagers Jan Quilici and Patty Allen will guide this follow-up workshop to GNV’s January's Gathering on memoir writing.  In this session, we will focus on voice and time perspectives. We will do a couple of "quick writes”. If time allows, attendees will read to the group something they've written previously. Bring something you'd like to read even if it's just a beginning.

In and Of Itself

 March 17, 2021

2:00 - 3:30 pm
If you are interested in visual and performing arts—theatre, opera, music, dance, art—welcome to The Culture Club. Join us for a discussion of In and Of Itself. A solo show by Derek DelGaudio, this powerful theatrical experience explores identity—how we see others, how we see ourselves and how others see us. The project chronicles conceptual storyteller DelGaudio’s attempt to understand the illusory nature of identity. His journey expands to a collective experience that forces us to confront the boundaries of our own identities. We will watch the show separately on Hulu (access by Hulu subscription or by free app available to Amazon Prime members), then gather over Zoom to share our thoughts on this astonishing show.

Beach Blanket Babylon
 March 29, 2021
7:00 - 8:30 pm
Beach Blanket Babylon, the iconic live performance revue, closed in 2019 after 45 years of lampooning political figures and celebrities and showcasing really, really big hats. Take a peek behind the stage as Villager Ann Halligan interviews her son, Tom Halligan, about his 13 years performing in this quintessential San Francisco theatre experience.

GNV ADDRESSING COVID

Emergency Grants

The office of Richard Valle, Alameda County Supervisor for District 2, recently announced Emergency Support Grants for Community Based Organizations. GNV applied for, and was granted, special funds to help seniors experiencing a financial crisis connected to the COVID pandemic. The funds can be used to purchase goods or services (such as rent, utilities, food, supplies, medication) to address a need that, if unmet, will negatively affect the individual's health or well-being.

Funds are available now, first come, first served. Seniors may request assistance on behalf of someone you know or for yourself. When contacting GNV, be prepared with name, address, and phone of the suggested recipient, a short description of the amount needed and how it will be used. Include your contact information if you're requesting for someone else.
