Tales of the Town, February 21
“Niles-centric History of Alameda Creek”
Nestled in the historic Niles Depot, 27 Villagers heard Julie Cain, Niles historian and Stanford affiliate, discuss Niles History. Julie Cain kept all spellbound with her well-researched presentation about Alameda Creek. The talk featured lots of pictures of early official maps, copies of the census, hand drawn maps, photos and lithographs.
Noting that we only know our history when we know everyone’s history, Julie recounted tales of those who lived along Alameda Creek, from native peoples 14,000 years ago through waves of immigrants to the diverse population of the present day. Serious faces and rapt attention filled the room, testament to how interesting Julie makes our history. |
