The next discussion will be American historian Doris Kearns Goodwin’s latest work, An Unfinished Love Story: A Personal History of the 1960s. As we did not choose a leader for the discussion, we will have a leader-less session. This is a rather long book (480 pages), so you might want to get an early start. The book is simultaneously a reflection on the final years the author spent with her late husband, Richard, and a look back at the history of the 1960s. Based on over 300 boxes of Richard’s personal documents and memorabilia, the book is an intimate take on the Kennedy and Johnson administrations and the monumental events of that decade. The audio book features Kearns Goodwin as narrator, along with Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, and it includes archival recordings of John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Robert F. Kennedy. Banter Books in downtown Fremont offers a 15% discount on this book if you mention your affiliation with GNV at the checkout. Villager Kathy Steel-Sabo will host at her home, 36647 Montecito Drive.
