About this event
We will be discussing the National Book Award winner,
James, by Percival Everett. The book is a retelling of Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from the perspective of the slave, Jim, as he and Huck make their way on a raft down the Mississippi River. While their journey has many of the same encounters found in Twain’s account, Jim/James is a much different character, emerging as a person of unusual intelligence, agency, and compassion. We will have a leaderless session, so every participant is asked to prepare one question for discussion.
If you purchase the book at Banter, you will receive a 15% discount at the cashier when you mention GNV.
