"My Year of Rest and Relaxation"
The GNV Book Club
The Book Club has selected Ottessa Moshfegh's novel My Year of Rest and Relaxation for its next meeting. Villager Patrice Varga will will lead the session.
Be warned that the book is decidedly not as light and airy as the title might suggest.The narrator tells a most unusual story about "taking a year off" from her privileged but very emotionally challenging life as a resident of New York's Upper East Side during 2000-01. Critics have hailed the novel as "darkly funny”. A NYT critic observes that Moshfegh "has a sleepless eye and dispenses observations as if from a toxic eyedropper”. Whew!
