From time to time Greater Niles Village learns about seniors who are struggling financially due to the pandemic. This led GNV to apply for and receive a $2,500.00 Emergency Support Grant for Community Based Organizations from the office of Richard Valle, Alameda County Supervisor for District 2. GNV can use the funds to purchase goods or services (such as rent, utilities, food, supplies, medication) to address a need that, if unmet, will negatively affect the individual's health or well-being.

 

Spread the word. Funds are available now, first come, first served. You may request assistance on behalf of someone you know or for yourself. When contacting GNV, be prepared with the name, address, and phone of the suggested recipient, a short description of the amount needed and how it will be used. Include your contact information if you're requesting for someone else. 
 
GNV Board Chair Kathy Steel-Sabo observes, “The mission of GNV is to support seniors in the Niles community as, together, we face the challenges of aging. COVID has presented new opportunities for us. Recipients of the funds distributed thus far consistently report that this relief ‘really will make a difference for us’.”

 

The City of Fremont’s Human Services Department received a very large donation of 1000 surgical face masks and 50 face shields. Greater Niles Village is helping with distribution. They are available free of charge. Contact Villager Barbara King at barbara.king@nilesvillage.org

 

More than 7 million people have activated CA Notify on their smartphones. It is a "privacy-protected" COVID-19 exposure notification system that will notify people if they have come in contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus. Gov. Newsom notes that “in 60 seconds you can help slow the spread of COVID-19.” To learn more about the system, visit CAnotify.gov. GNV can assist you in signing up for this app.
